Lonesome Beast Native Presented by Moa brewing co. is a continuation from the highly acclaimed 2014 creative collaboration and exhibition ‘Lonesome Beast’ between Shelton Woolright and Dean Sacred.
From the success of the first exhibition came the desire to expand and collaborate with some of New Zealand’s top established urban artists – Otis Frizzell, Askew, Flox and again, Dean Sacred.
In this new series of photographic works Shelton was given access to the native taxidermy vaults at the Auckland museum. As each artist layers their unique style over Shelton’s prints what emerges is a unique and striking collection of 15 limited edition works exhibited for the first time at The Auckland ZOO.
L’Art reflète la vie – Art imitating life. It all started with a rose. Inked onto his arm, Shelton Woolright sports a simple tudor rose. Although modest in comparison to his other tattoos, it is this motif that has become the calling card of the New Zealand-born, London based musician and photographer. Best known as the drummer for alternative Rock outfits ‘I Am Giant’ & ‘Blindspott’, in his new series of photographic works, Shelton reconstructs this tudor rose out of materials drawn from his life experiences. The places, people and events that mark his creative journey emerge in the details of these new images, exhibited for the first time next February at The Hub – DC Shoes creative space and media studio located at 5 rue Montorgueil, Paris, France.
