Found: Martin’s Bay, Fiordland, 1885

This is an adult female specimen from late 1800’s. A raptor that feeds predominantly on live prey (rarely on carrion) – small to medium-sized birds, but occasionally black shags, pheasants and mammals such as rabbits. Males are about 1/3 smaller than females. They breed in a wide variety of habitats from the coast to above the tree line.
